Weight Loss For Diabetics
My Son’s Weight Loss and Diabetes Control Progress
Several months ago my son Matt was facing the challenge of needing knee surgery with the prerequisite of losing a lot of weight. I remembered a time over two decades ago when severe sciatic back and side pain drove me to my doctor for some kind of weight loss program. Dr. Cooper put me on a 1000 calorie a day diet, and it turned out to be very successful for me. I lost a little over 100 pounds in the course of a year, and kept the weight off for two years after that. However, I don’t think I could have lasted on that weight loss program without the Nutrilite food supplements that my mom Vivian Burden had been supplying me. That memory motivated me to contact Bryan Wilson, a Face Book friend of mine who I knew to be an Amway Independent Business Owner, and to sign up in order to be able to supply my son with the food supplements he would need to make this long hard weight loss journey.
Even before I signed up to become an IBO, I had bought a case of Perfect Water which claimed to oxygenate the bloodstream. My son, who had gone through a period of being very unresponsive started becoming very alert and responsive. Today, my wife Chris, a Clinical Lab Scientist at Frank Memorial Hospital, told me that she noticed that people looked at me kind of funny when I tried to tell them about a water that could increase their oxygen level. However, she said that one of the machines at the hospital will not run if the oxygen level isn’t high enough. If the machine needs the oxygen to be able to run, how much more our bodies.
To get back on track here, after I started Matt on a certain Weight Management Program c for about a week or two, one night Matt had a lot of blood in his urine, so I took him to E.R. His glucometer reading was well over 300, which is very high. I brought in all the food supplements, food bars, and recipe book to see if there was anything in that particular weight loss program that had spiked his blood sugar and caused blood to show up in the urine. The ER doctor looked them all over to see if there was a culprit among them, and he found nothing to be in any way harmful. He gave Matt an antibiotic and told me to take him in to his Physician Dr. Carla Longchamp in 2 days and have her order an A1C for him. At that point, his glucometer reading was still over 300 so she ordered the A1C, which came out to be 10.9, which meant if something drastic didn’t happen very soon, he would be a candidate for insulin shots in the very near future. I also got a second opinion from her to see if she saw any problems with the food supplements he was taking. The food supplements, meal bars, shakes, snack bars all came out with a clean bill of health.
A friend, Bryan and his wife Dina were very helpful to me and helped me to navigate a certain website to find the Carb-Reducer Weight Management Program. It came as a package for ease of purchase. The package included carb blockers designed to suppress the process of rapidly turning carbohydrates into sugars, a slimming food supplement (which comes with all three weight management programs), fiber to add to water or food, meal bars, protein bars, and snack bars, and a 4 week guide with nutritional equivalence substitution, shopping lists for each week, recommended meals and snacks, which supplements to take and when, appropriate exercises, and diabetic friendly recipes. Fortunately for my family, all of the food supplements and food products that we purchased from Amway were certified as Kosher, which helped, since we are a Kosher only family. When we find non-kosher items on the menu, we simply use the nutritional equivalence substitution lists to find something kosher in its place.
Dr. Longchamp also got us in to see the Diabetes Educator Sherri Gravier, and the appointment came around just after we had received the Carb-Reducer Weight Management Program. I brought the whole packet in to show the D.E., and she was happy to look it all over for us. I wanted to make sure that all of those very sweet and tasty food bars and snack bars were okay for a diabetic. She checked a few facts and told us that this program is absolutely perfect for helping Matt lose weight and get his blood sugar A1C down. She explained that all of the foodbars were balanced with fiber, and were highly nutritious, perfect for what we needed. She said that we have about a three month window to get his blood sugar down, or he may have Type II Diabetes for the rest of his life. She said, looking over the Carb-Reducer Weight Management Program, that we were off to a very good start.
Well, in the last 3 months, Matt has lost over 50 lbs. and has brought his blood sugar readings to an average of about 125 in the last couple of weeks. His lowest reading was 117 in the morning before breakfast. He still has a ways to go on his weight and his blood sugar levels, but his D.E. Sherri Gravier said at his last visit a couple of weeks ago, that she has never ever in her entire life ever seen anyone with Type II Diabetes ever make so much progress in such a short amount of time, where he started out with an A1C of 10.9, almost needing insulin shots to a little over 7, and almost off his meds.
