How to Fit Daily Exercise Into your Child’s Life

It seems that children aren’t as active as they used to be. Kids who are still a long way from their teenage years are more focused on the television and their computer games than going out and indulging in some rough and tumble in the garden, or riding their bikes until they’re tired enough to sleep all night through.

Fortunately there are plenty of ways to integrate some much needed exercise into your child’s life from the time they start their school years, and what’s more they will enjoy it as well.

The key to successfully getting your child to be more active is to make sure anything you encourage them to do is fun. In short, exercise shouldn’t seem like exercise. Adults tend to view exercise as a chore – something that has to be done for health reasons and not for enjoyment. Kids will get more than enough exercise if they are doing something they love, and having fun at the same time.

Both an indoors toy and an outdoors toy can be equally attractive to a young child, and it’s a good idea to have several of each, so they always have something they can do, even if it’s a rainy day. If it’s something you can get involved in and have fun with too, so much the better. It’s an ideal time to bond with your child.

Toys which are fun and entertaining – such as a wibble wobble board – will be a big hit with most children, as they provide a challenge which can be made easier or harder depending on how good their balance and dexterity is. The best kind of fitness toy is one which isn’t even regarded as a fitness toy – it’s simply something that they always make a beeline to because it’s so much fun to play with, and the wibble wobble board is a good example of a toy which makes exercising a lot of fun. Like many other similar exercise toys available, it is also ideal for use at parties and simply being enjoyed with friends as well.

It’s also important for adults to try and set a good example to their kids. If your child sees you sitting in front of the television all the time and not getting much exercise, they will question why you are trying to get them out and about more. Make exercise a family event and not only will you all see the benefits; you’ll also bond more as a family.
